Hello out there, wood-burning enthusiasts. I don't know about you, but I have been spending my free moments these last few days outside swinging the sledge hammer to split up wood so I can feed my Wall of Fire fireplace grate this winter. Ironically I'm too lazy to trailer the log splitter over here so I'm splitting all this wood by hand. It's not too bad, only need about two cords.

I will tell you, when swinging that sledge on a warm Fall day, it reminds me of what the old timers say about firewood; it warms you twice.

My two cents

After selling these grates for the better part of 20 years as well as accumulating more positive reviews than I can count, I can't help but feel our company has done well. Dare I even go as far as saying that we have helped make our customers' lives a little more enjoyable because they can finally enjoy their fireplaces.

That being said, it rubs me the wrong way when somebody who stumbles across our website sends us a message accuses us of being deceptive.

I notice in your picture where you compare your grate to a flat grate that you did not use the same fireplace or number of logs. Deceiving. If it weren't for that I may have fallen for it.

My response:

Your analysis is faulty, here's why:

Using the same fireplace for both demonstrations is irrelevant. We are concerned with the performance of the grate; not the masonry firebox. Do you actually believe that there is some magical property the 2nd fireplace itself possesses that alone accounts for the temperature increase? Perhaps you are looking for fault instead of having an open mind about this? Keep in mind, not everybody is a scam artist. The reason we used two fireplaces was because the home the pictures were taken in had two fireplaces available which saved time performing this comparison, nothing more. In hind site, we probably should have used the same fireplace to keep the tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorists at bay.

Your second point is that the flat grate has fewer pieces of wood in it. True, as you may or may not know, if you overload a flat grate, the firewood can roll out of the grate and onto the hearth. The grate was loaded to its maximum safe capacity. This highlights another advantage over the flat grate; the vertical grate can safely hold more wood! Just about everybody I know has a story about flaming logs rolling out of a flat grate.

The next thing you need to realize is that our products come with a 30 day guarantee. You can return the used product and we will refund you everything that you originally paid us. In fact, if you take us up on this, we lose money; not exactly the policy of someone who wants you to "fall for it", wouldn't you say?

So there you go, food for thought.

Fire pit season is just around the corner!

Well folks, another year has come and gone and that means another heating season is slowly coming to a close. So you would think that the manufacturing crew at Grate Wall of Fire would be slowing down as the snow and icicles start to melt outside. If you thought that you would be what we like to call WRONG! We have just started building up our annual stock of outdoor fire pits for the warm weather months ahead. Our guys are hard at work cutting, bending, and welding steel day in and day out to supply those one of a kind fire pits to our eager customers. New Rumford fireplace grates now available!

Here's our newest creation at Grate Wall of Fire, the Rumford grate! For several years now, customers have been asking for a tapered Wall of Fire grate that will fit the narrow back wall of small Rumford fireplaces. We finally got around to creating a prototype and just the other day, built the required tooling and jigs needed to put the "Rumford" into production for the 2013-2014 season. Just got in another 45,000 lbs. of steel tonight so we can keep up with the demand for "Wall of Fire" grates. Here's a snapshot of some of our guys unloading the big rig from Auburn, New York just a couple of hours ago. That's right, we buy our steel from an American mill. Now that a new batch of material is at our facility, we can start turning out more fireplace grates bright and early tomorrow morning.
